ipod nano 1st gen won't start
« on: February 10, 2009, 08:28:30 AM »
Hello. I need some help please. My ipod 1st gen with Rockbox (stable)don't start however I order him. Yesterday I shut it down by pressing the PLAY button for some seconds. On the display appeared: shutting down and display become black. In the morning(today) nothing occures when I press:
PLAY button long
MENU+Select buttons long(as restart)
PLAY+select buttons long

"Hold" button is switched to unlock(I see no orange part)

I tried to get it charged with:(even though battery was half full before shutting down)
PC by USB cabel- PC doesn't recognize device
USB cabel by external charger - nothing again

Is there any chance to get my Ipod back to life? Any advices please :'(

Turn hold on and then off again, and then try the Menu + Select reset combination again.  Be sure you hold Menu + Select simultaneously for up to 30 seconds.

If the player still does not turn on, plug the player in to charge for several hours, preferably with an external charger, and then try again.

still nothing. I guess my device is not detected anyway- the red flash on charger must turn into green when device is connected and is being charged. It didn't happen.
Combination of select+menu didn't work either :(

Do you have another charger that you could try?  It's possible that the charger is the issue, not your iPod.

Then borrow one from a friend, or buy one from Apple.

ok, I visited an apple store with that problem. Guy at the desk looked at it, touched slightly and said it is dead and should be replaced by a new one :D
I came back home and threw it cruely to the wall. Many times :)
Then it was unconcious the whole night and in the morning started as nothing ever happened before. Damn it, how come?
Anyway, I don't think my ipod will last a very long time. I am about to buy a new one, maybe shuffle

Please do not talk about abusing your DAPs like that ever again. Beating it senseless isn't the solution you were told.

Why didn't you just buy a wall charger like I mentioned?

I got another charger from my friend and it didn't work for me. I thought I had nothing to lose and can destroy it ;) Actually I've just thrown it on the floor
