iPod_control and other hidden files - what is this?
« on: February 10, 2009, 02:12:15 AM »
Hi.
Few days ago I've installed rockbox on my ipod g4 grayscale. Everything works fine and I am very happy. Good job!
Trying to find best way to deal with my music and podcasts I've created music and podcast dir transfering files with nautilus (linux) or finder (osx) or with terminal on both boxes. For podcast I've used rsync on both machines. I did not create db because I dont need one. Everything worked fine with some smaller issues on linux side.
Today I've discovered some files and dirs that I didn't create. Those are:

iPod_control
.iPod_control
.VolumeIcon.icns
._.VolumeIcon.icns
.Trashes
._.Trashes
.Spotlight-V100

I've tried to delete them but they are coming back.
Forum search for iPod_control didn't give some answers exept that iPod_control should be hidden (I have hidden and not hidden) and that the iPod_control dir is connected somehow with data base (that I did not use or create) and updateing iPod with some music player (that I don't use for file transfer).

Could soembody explaine importance of these files/dir, how are they created and how to remove them?

thanx.

edit

Ok. I've just do the search for Spotlight-V100 and found some answers :)
These files ar created by mac osx and can be deleted. But they are going to be recreated next time connecting to apple machine running OSx.

I still don't understand how the music files can end in iPod_control as mentioned in some previous topics ?

iPod_control
Used by the Apple firmware.  Contains music, games, videos, etc. loaded with iTunes.  You can delete it if you don't use the Apple firmware.  (I think) It'll create it again the next time it boots.

Created by a Mac when you've connected your iPod to it.  I think you can get your Mac to stop creating these files by changing some setting.  Check google.
