Battery issues and the Sansa e200
« on: February 09, 2009, 08:23:30 PM »
From the posts I've looked at, it doesn't seem like battery charging is currently supported in v3.1. But anyhow... I plugged the cable into my Sansa (new... sorta, just got it a few days ago), which was at around 15%, then went somewhere else for a few minutes. When I came back, it was at 100%.

It seems a bit weird, because from the other posts the battery level shouldn't indicate any change, since the Sansa doesn't actually charge... So, what is the currently state of battery charging with the Sansa? Working but unreliable? (I'd hope it wouldn't overcharge the battery if it was already at 100%... or is that implemented in hardware?)

Other issues... Battery level starts off falling pretty quickly (80%ish to 60%ish in two hours), but then seems to drag out at the lower percentages. 5% drop over an hour or so when it's closer to 15%. I've noticed several times that when I first check the battery level and it was around 15%, when I checked it half an hour later it was higher, say around 17%. Then it drops 2% in two minutes.

Besides shutting off the backlight immediately, does using the hold button do anything else to save electricity?

Also, the Sansa's battery is supposed to last 20 hours... Mine lasted about 12 hours (specifically, 11h15 running the battery dead) on the OF with moderate playlist fiddling (.5 to 1 hours of backlight total). With the same amount of fiddling, it lasted at least 9 hours with about 8% charge or so left.

Anyway, is the weirdness of the battery at low charge levels typical or do I just have a lousy battery?

Its not.  Charging was enabled a few weeks after 3.1.

Theres a calibration in there for a relatively new battery in rockbox.  If yours is old and failing, then its not going to match.

Thats only the original firmware.  Rockbox does better then the Sandisk firmware these days.
