H120 fried.....?
« on: February 09, 2009, 06:09:15 AM »
Hi,

after 5 happy years a recent 32gb flash upgrade and new 2200mah battery  - i think ive managed to fry my h120...  :(

i mistakenly plugger it into a 12 adapter from a car.

i get no response from any buttons. if i attempt to charge it i get a charging light for about a second then it goes out.

is this the end, or are there any repair options... ?

thanks for any responses

Mat

Unfortunately this is a very common way to kill a H100.  Some people have tried to repair theirs, but it is not trivial and may or may not be possible at all.  Try checking over at mistic river, they had various threads on this.

I wish you luck, but think it is probably terminal.

sometimes the caps have taken all the heat on this and can be removed/replaced to bring back the player; but this is not for the faint hearted and involves some decent soldering equipment/skill. its not always doable either and could very well have reached the dac/cpu. in which case it will be beyond repair. I suggest you label your charger with big bold letters like I have. Its amazing how often this happens
