problem with ipod video 60gb and restarting
forcifer:
well, on my old ipod (which was stolen out of my car) i used rockbox and liked it so when i got this one i put it on as well. the problem is, it wont turn off directly. it will say shutting down, then actually be off for a second or 2, then it will come back on. after a while, the original ipod firmware will load and then it will stay shut off. in the mean time most of the battery is lost due to constant restarts. is there anything i can do to stop this?
soap:
You didn't mention if you had a USB cable attached or not, so I will assume you do not.
This does sound to me, though, like a hardware issue. It sounds like either your iPod is detecting an USB charger connection or false button presses are being registered.
That being said - neither of those theories explain why it eventually boots into the Apple firmware unless it is the "Menu" button which is sending false presses and every so often it sends one at the right time during boot and effectively tells the Rockbox bootloader to boot into Apple firmware.
forcifer:
yea there is no USB cord attached. its also odd because its random amounts of shutting down then restarting before in goes to apple firmware. usually its once, but sometimes its 2, 3, and god knows how much. it gets really annoying since the ipod already has bad battery life, this just makes it worse
soap:
Let us test this "random false 'Menu' presses" theory.
Boot into Rockbox on as charged of a battery as you can get.
Set the idle poweroff time (Menu:Settings:General Settings:System:Idle Poweroff) to "off".
Navigate into the file browser.
Press nothing else.
Walk away.
Come back an hour later. Two hours later. Three hours later if need be.
Is Rockbox displaying the file browser still or the main menu?
Chronon:
Does it stay off if you engage the hold switch?
