Sansa Not Assigned A Drive On PC
kaffy123:
I'm using Vista Home Premium. When I plugged in my Sansa e250 the computer recognized it and i can put music on and take it off, etc.
The problem is that when I go to put Rockbox on it it doesn't have a drive letter assigned. C is local disk, D is Hp_Recovery, and E is DVD RW.
The Sansa is on the screen with these drives but has no letter near it. Is there something that can be done to change this? Any help is appreciated.
AlexP:
Change the USB mode in the Sansa firmware to MSC mode (not MTP). Then you will be able to install Rockbox. I'm pretty sure this is in the manual.

Believe it or not, I did read the installation chapter. But without your help I wouldn't have gotten that.
I've been at this for three hours now and had finally figured out where to unzip the file I downloaded. I was torn between it saying to put it on the computer or the Sansa. It's a good thing it meant the computer, because I was at sea over how to put it on the Sansa.
I followed your advice and it now has a drive assigned to it. I can't say thank you enough for helping me, because I would have still been at this for a while and may never have figured it out.
AlexP:
Which package you downloaded? I hope you are using rbutil (Rockbox Utility) as it is much easier!
Having said that, there is a bug in the current version (1.0.9) and the previous version (1.0.8 ) that means it will not install the bootloader. For that you will need 1.0.7, and then you can use 1.0.9 to install Rockbox 3.1 and all the extras such as fonts.
All rbutil builds are available from:

oookay. Another puzzle I see. I think I'll tackle all that in the morning. Have to work up my nerve first. ;)
Thanks again.
