Which Mic solution? (ipod Video 5.5G)

I have an iPod Video 5.5G and I love using RockBox.  I'm interested in getting a stereo microphone adapter (probably some sort of Belkin or similar) to record ambient noise for importing into music projects etc... Can RockBox work with mics like this?  Or only certain ones?  If so, does anyone have any favourites or ones to avoid?  I'm not looking to spend much but all price ranges will be considered.
