Ipod 40g 4TH Gen

hello everyone. Please help, this is a big step for me (baby boomer gen). considering putting rock box on my ipod. I'am a complete novice on this kind of stuff. however would like to have easier way to control my ipod. RockBox seems to be the answer?

I edited the title of the topic to clarify that it's about a 4th generation iPod, not an iPod Classic.  There is no 40GB iPod Classic.
