Any idea ?

Sounds like you may actually have a filesystem or hard drive issue. Try restoring the iPod in iTunes, and if that doesn't work, then you may have a dead or dying hard drive.
If you try starting up the iPod and putting it close to your ear, can you hear the drive whirring up and spinning, or sound like it's trying to spin but keeps powering down? Or worse... the Click of Death?

Dead battery indeed, or may I try something else ?

Sorry, but i'm poor in English, that's not my mother language.
So I will tell you what to do to recover your iPod (as I did) in French.
;D ;D

I'm sorry, but these are English-only forums.

Well, i will try in English, but sorry for mistakes.
Having switched on your iPod, and when you see the bad ipod logo, (your HD will make endless clicks) without being afraid, give him some bangs onto the side, more and more hardly until you hear some noize.
The head of the HD will unlock and he will start, screen will light.
I also believed that the HD of my iPod had died.
Since then, everything returned and works perfectly.
