Dead iPod ?
pathe:
I haven't been using my iPod Photo 60 Gb for a while (two monthes or so).
It's battery was obviously empty, so I plugged the iPod to its charger :
it only show a battery sign for a while, and then a blank screen. Itdoesn't boot, even if it stays connected to the charger the whole day long. If I disconnect it, it doesn't boot.
Same if I connect it to my laptop.
And the command cat /proc/partitions doesn't show any iPod device connected (I'm running debian stable on my laptop).
Any idea ?
:( :'(

I moved your post as it wasn't an installation issue.
No combination of buttons causes any sign of life to show on your iPod? Hold switch isn't on? And you did leave it for 24 hours or so on the charger, right?
If you need, there's a very good troubleshooting guide here. In this case, make sure it isn't your logic board or your battery that's on the fritz; in the battery's case, you can easily replace it with a new one (the link I gave will take you somewhere where you can buy one).

You guessed right : no combination of buttons causes any sign of life to show on my iPod, the hold switch isn't on, and I did leave it for 24 hours or so on the charger.
Thank you for the link. I think it's the battery.

Not to beat a dead horse, but did you press (and hold) the "Menu" and Select (the middle one) buttons for 60 seconds? Again after toggling the hold switch from on (red) to off (white) again? Again while plugged in?

Hey, thanks a lot ! It's been starting to boot : I saw an apple !
Then it showed a file-icon with a warning sign beside it,
then it's been the "Do not disconnect" warning,
with a loading battery icon at the right-top of the screen...
It smelled good,
but suddenly was the "sad iPod" icon displayed...
and it went off again.
Any idea ?
Dead battery indeed, or may I try something else ?
