Gigabeat F40 backlight not working after replacing battery and closing case
(1/1)
quadomatic:
I attempted replacing my Gigabeat battery. I was successful.
Unfortunately, when I tried putting the cover back onto the case, the backlight stopped working. It seemed like once I pushed down the case cover, I disconnected something. I'm guessing that the small ribbon cable that consists of two connections (I'm guessing power and ground) is responsible for backlight power, and it got disconnected somehow.
After I disassembled the player again, applying pressure to the upper left corner of the screen where the ribbon cable connects seemed to make it blink back on, but that's not working anymore.
Any ideas on how to fix the connection?
UPDATE: I took apart the LCD into the 3 pieces: The black plastic backing, the lcd itself, and then the backlight. The LCD still works, but apparently the backlight isn't working, as i suspected. I'm not sure why it isn't working. When I took it apart it seemed like the little black border around it had been slightly peeled up and the ribbon connector was loose...maybe I should see if the ribbon connector isn't connecting with whatever it is supposed to.
UPDATE 2: The ribbon cable from the gigabeat motherboard to the lcd backlight connects to a small circuit that then goes to the actual light. It looks like its all solid there. The problem then I think is that the ribbon cable isn't properly inserted into the gigabeat....but I don't exactly know how to reinsert it. It seems like the cable might be soldered to the board, in which case it wouldn't be that...so what is it!!!!
pg2470:
I'm having the same problem. Except I didn't replace the battery; the backlight just stopped working. I'm not even sure how to take the LCD apart or I might try it.
Update: Nevermind, I figured out how to take it apart, but still no luck in making the backlight work.
