Boot Rockbox when plugged to USB charger? (was: C240 won't boot Rockbox)
« on: January 31, 2009, 02:02:51 PM »
How to set C240 to boot from Rockbox, after plug in usb cord to usb charger? To do this I must hold middle button during plug usb connector, but this is not convinient to me.

I moved your post to an appropriate forum and gave it a more accurate title.
a) Your question has nothing to do with installation, so don't post such questions in the installation forum.
b) Your title was completely misleading about the nature of your actual question.

Is it a USB port or a USB wall charger?

This is a wall and car charger as well. Prior to instalation a newest Rockbox firmware, v. 3.1, I haven't any problems with that, it loaded Rockbox after connecting to wall charger.

What version or revision do you have exactly?  There was a bug involving USB detection recently.  But this is believed to have been squashed.

This is what I found, and it doesn't appear to me to be a Rockbox problem:

Charger is a musicPower Duet Model 0900-71 with two USB ports.
Rockbox build r19899-090201

If I connect my c250 to one port while running Rockbox, the Sansa continues to operate under Rockbox, and the Sansa charges.

However, if I then connect my iPod 4G to the other charger port (or if it is connected prior to connecting the Sansa), then the Sansa shows the USB icon and reboots to the OF.

If two Sansas are connected to the charger, then both remain in Rockbox and charge.

The USB stack isn't available in the bootloader, and without it theres apparently no good way to detect if a plugin is for USB or charging, so USB is assumed.  Eventually this should be changed if we are to have bootloader USB support.

But is it possible to make additional item in configuration somewhere or in settings/general/system menu to always load "rockbox" no matter what. In this case you can plug your wall/car adapter or PC usb cable - use it only for charging and not being switched to OF.

Any setting within Rockbox cannot affect the bootloader, so to switch how the bootloader behaves you would have to edit the code and then compile your own bootloader.

How to get this source code of bootloader, and in what place is this chunk o code, that is responsible for what is loaded first?  I know C and C++ and I think I can manage with that.

Source code is in SVN.
