e260R Installation Failure
« on: January 30, 2009, 10:20:33 PM »
Hello everyone,

I just got my e260R from woot, tried to install rockbox on it and followed the entire e260R install process with manufacturer mode and everything. The firmware patch worked and everything went fine, I copied over all the files from rockbox and put them on the root of the device and rebooted, updated the database, updated the firmware.

Then on the second restart it just sat at the load screen and rockbox didn't load, I had to press and hold power button to turn off the device.

I didn't permanently brick it did I? How can I revert the firmware if I accidentally did?

Thanks in advance for your answers, I really appreciate what support people due in their free time for open source projects like rockbox.

If you are interested in uninstalling, did you try this?

There's an "unbrick" guide that can be found via the SansaFAQ page if your player won't boot into the original firmware properly.

Hey, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I was able to enter recovery mode, but the website where the unbrick guide told me to go doesn't have a .mi4 file for my model, which is an e260R. It has a .mi4 file for an e250R but that's all. http://daniel.haxx.se/sansa/mi4.html

Where should I go from here? Will the file for the e250R work on my e260R?

And before I started the install process I made sure I had a version 1 player, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks again.

That should be fine.  The only difference between the different e2x0R models is the amount of onboard memory.

Well, I followed through all the steps in the un-brick guide several times, and none of them work out. Luckily I found my solution on the anything but ipod forums, ( http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33823 )

He goes through all the steps needed, and I have a live cd of linux somewhere I can use to follow his tutorial, but I have no way of getting the hidden partition dump file for my e260R. I checked on Danial's website, but couldn't find anything there. There is a one post mention of some guy getting virtuoso015's method to work on his e260R at the vary bottom of this thread: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28688 however he said he got the hidden partition dump file from a healthy e260R, something I am lacking.

Does someone know where I could go to get this file? Is there an alternative method that might jump start my sansa back to life? For further detail, I also have expressed my issue in this thread: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39578

Thanks again for your help guys.
