E270
« on: January 29, 2009, 07:02:00 AM »
Hi, All.  Need some help please.  I bought a Sansa E270 1 yr ago. Version 1. Found rockbox recently and installed it without luck.  Tried it on a 2gb model: that worked well. Tried installing on the 6.0gb w/o success. Version 1....24. I'm absolutely sure I have version1.
Have used both the manual and auto-install methods.
Tried updated Sansa firmware;  no luck
Tried copying .rockbox on player. Player wont recognize rockbox. Booting up as sansa.
Any clues or suggestions? I scoured the web with google and had no luck either.

Well, right now you aren't providing enough information.

What actually does happen? Are you getting an error message, or what?

Sorry.
I'm running Windows XP.
After RB is loaded onto the E270, either by auto-install or by manual (several trials or each), the device was unplugged from USB.  e270 restarts.  I get the message "Database refresh" then Sansa original interface loads up.  (I'm not pressing the left wheel pad either)
Does not recognize RB as installed.
When e270 is reattached to USB, Windows recognize the device as the drive (in my case E:)
Directory shows all files and subdir including (.rockbox  and all components)
I can try it over and over..no difference.
Doesn't seem like this v1....24 recognizes RB

It sounds like you haven't installed the bootloader. Which choice did you make in RBUtil?

Just download the rbutil again.  I went to "Installation" Install Bootloader - No Sansa detected.
Menu bar above  - identified device on drive as present. Autodect does not work.
Quick install puts RB unzip onto device again.

hmmm..can't get util to recognize or find e270 with autodetect or to tell util where device is located.

Rockbox will not work without an installed bootloader. You cannot skip that step and still expect it to work.

What did you do to manually install when you tried?

It's in the manual, under manual installation.

I went to "Installation" Install Bootloader - No Sansa detected.
Current Rockbox Utility has a bug that prevents installing the bootloader on Sansa players using Windows. You can use it to install Rockbox itself and use Rockbox Utility 1.0.7 for installing the bootloader. Note that 1.0.8 and 1.0.9 are affected by the bug. A new release should be finished soon but is currently delayed due to real life issues.
