Llorean:
Rockbox will not work without an installed bootloader. You cannot skip that step and still expect it to work.

What did you do to manually install when you tried?

Sansaboy:
I tried copying rockbox unzip onto e270.

How can I install bootloader manually?

Llorean:
It's in the manual, under manual installation.

Sansaboy:
Sorry about that.  Just was reading as you replied.
DL sansa patcher.
e270 changed to MSC

device not detected again.

Llorean: Thank you.  You have been immensely helpful.

Current Rockbox Utility has a bug that prevents installing the bootloader on Sansa players using Windows. You can use it to install Rockbox itself and use Rockbox Utility 1.0.7 for installing the bootloader. Note that 1.0.8 and 1.0.9 are affected by the bug. A new release should be finished soon but is currently delayed due to real life issues.
