e260 problems with utility + wrong mount point.
« on: January 28, 2009, 11:04:08 PM »
Hey, new user and possible huge idiot, here.
Just got a 4 gb sansa e260 through woot! I believe it's version 1-ish.
I'm using windows xp.
The firmware version on the e260 is PP5022AF-05.51-S301-02.18-S301.02.18A-D, (Build 32.10)
Serial number reads: 00000000-00000000-0145b4a4-f413f207-00000000
I got this information by right-clicking for properties through my computer.
I tried using the utility and received the message, "mount point is wrong!"
The drive letter is e, and everything looks okay to my glance.
I then started to use the manual installation, but became intimidated by the pdf manual. I don't think I know how to properly extract the files to the device.
Please advise me on right action. I appreciate it.

Did you use auto-detect in the utility?

And after auto-detecting you didn't change anything?

Not that I'm aware of...
Currently, it says it can't detect the e260. I just rebooted everything this morning.

So, current problem = "no sansa detected!"

And it's showing up as a drive letter, not in "Other Devices"?

Yeah, it's showing up as "Sansa e260 (E:)".
But, it has, on its own initiative reset itself from MSC to that other doubleplusungood setting.
Also, the computer won't let me "safely remove hardware".
I just want to make sure of the settings, y'know, and the sansa is showing up at (E:) and (F:).
"Try stopping the device later."

If it's in MTP mode it won't show up with drive letters. If you can't remove it, you can't check it's mode. So how exactly are you aware it's reset its mode?

Please use Rockbox Utility 1.0.7, at least for installing the bootloader. Current Rockbox Utility unfortunately has a bug that prevents installing the bootloader on Sansas when running Windows. It's possible that this bug affected the autodetection too.

I'm sorry. I wasn't clear. I mean, during my initial exploration it had switched from MCS to MTP for no apparent reason. Early morning for me. Also, it wasn't letting me 'safely remove' because the utility was in the ready to run (though not actually going). More fool, I.

I'll try Utility 1.0.7, now, thank you, bluebrother.

Okay.
Success! Thanks for your patience, both you, bluebrother & especially Llorean!

Hate to drag up an old thread, but I too have an E260 that has a mount point issue, I tried the suggestion to use the different version, but to no avail.  I have an E250 that I was able to load Rockbox on and I love it, but I really want the 260 to be flashed with Rockbox as well...so any help would be greatly appreciated...

OT the list for the E200 series says it will not play flac files, and that is not true.  I download tons of music from http://bt.etree.org/index.php and 99% are flacs and a few are .shn's which I have not tried to play as I usually convert them to flac files anyway.

There is no point in doing this as the issue is fixed since quite a while. Maybe you want to post some details on your issue so someone can actually give useful advice. Posting the output of the About / System Info dialog can also be quite useful.

Why can't you connect the player?
