Gigabeat S30 in MTP mode

Is there anyway I can connect my Gigabeat S30 to my PC (windows XP) as a normal external hard drive instead of in MTP mode?  I think I need to connect my S30 as an USB external drive before I can install Rockbos.  Thanks.

1) No you can't - UMS USB mode is only available *after* you've installed Rockbox.

2) The installation on the Gigabeat S is NOT supported yet, which is why you're having trouble.

However the install is obviously quite possible in MTP mode, as otherwise none of us would have been able to install it.  There is info on the wiki, however as GodEater says it is a bit tricky (on windows especially I believe) and not yet supported.

No.  You can *only* install in MTP mode - the  original firmware has no MSC mode.  Once the Rockbox bootloader is installed, it has the Rockbox MC mode from which you can finish the install.

It's not supported yet, but there will be notice on the front page when it is. The available manual is currently incorrect simply because we're getting close to it being supported, and it seems to have been made available when it shouldn't be.

No, as I have repeatedly said (in this and the other thread on the subject).  I only linked the page directly after LambaCalculus pointed to the manual (which I didn't know was there) as I had a quick flick through it and felt that once the info was out there if someone were going to try they were better to go from the wiki page than the manual
