5.5 Gen 30GB ipod resumes playback when paused by car

I have a 5.5 Gen 30GB apple iPod. I have it hooked into my car via an adapter that uses the serial port on the bottom. Have any of the releases fixed the issue where the ipod will actually pause when it gets the shutdown command from the car?
If I leave the ipod in the apple mode, it will pause and shutdown when I turn off my car. if it's in rockbox mode, it will pause briefly, and then resume playback.

Do you have the appropriate settings set, such as car adapter mode?

yes, I set the car adapter mode.
Is there something that could cause it to not work? or is it working for other people, and just not me?
