One touch recording and music spectrum when playing music
« on: January 27, 2009, 07:07:09 PM »
It would be great if the rec button can be set to turn on the device and start recording right away.
Also option setting to display spectrum while playing music.
This is for the sensa c250.

I think that most of the players have just one button capable of turning the device on. For example it is the play button on iriver H100 series. Anyway it is possible to detect combination of buttons just after the start (for example play + rec) but again to take H100 as an example - it would need modification of the bootloader because the firmware takes control of the device only several seconds after turning the device on.

As far as I know the doctrine of Rockbox imposes that a new feature should be implemented for all capable platforms not just for one.

As far as possible hardware wise.  If a feature was wanted but not physically possible on some targets, it wouldn't stop it going onto those that could.

BigBambi, thank you for refinement.

I forgot to say that I would welcome the possibility to request an action right during turning the device on.
like:
  • start recording
  • resume playback
  • start radio
  • play newly downloaded podcasts
  • etc...

The reason is that the booting takes relatively long time and what I do most often while turning the device on is:
1. take the DAP out of pocket
2. turn it on
3. wait until the firmware boots (sometimes I have to put the player back into my pocket during waiting)
4. perform the action (most of the time turn on radio, resume playback or start playback of new podcasts)

I would never want to use automatic resume after turning on.

Unfortunately on targets like iriver H100, H300 this needs modification of the bootloader besides the firmware which is not as easy as modification of just the firmware. Probably it will be similar on most of the targets.
