I found another player at my local jc Penny for around $44. I did some research ahead of time. it has an ALI m7101a chipset. it has a microphone, 1.8 inch screen, the possibility to play mp3s, wma, wav, and 1.8 inch avi files. here is info on the chipset:

it has 2gb of memory and i can't seem to find any other firmware. i will try to help as much as i can, but i am limited to an emac and i don't have alot of programing skills.
