iPod Video 80 GB not installing

(1/2) > >>

mi6:
Hi, I have an iPod Video 80 GB (not sure what generation)that won't install.  I have installed rock box on my old 30 Gig Video before, so I know how to install and run the software, but when I run the patcher I get an error that says no iPods found, aborting.  I get the same issue when I try to run the automatic installer, but it does let me choose my iPod which shows up under the J: Drive.  When I go to install it, it says no ipods found.  I am not sure if this version is supported, but could someone point me in the right direction to find out if it is or not.  Thanks.

bluebrother:
Are you sure this isn't an Ipod Classic (i.e. 6G)? What does Rockbox Utilities autodetection function tell?

mi6:
No actually, I am not sure.  When I run the autodetect it tells me 'Detected an unsupported Apple player variant.  Sorry, Rockbox doesn't run on your player.  I bought this iPod online and I dont have any other information on it other than what I can get off the ipod itself.  I do have an external hard drive and other things plugged into my usb ports.  Should I remove them or is this an unsupported newer version?  Thanks for your help.

LambdaCalculus:
If your 80GB iPod has an aluminum face in silver or black, it's a Classic (6th generation), and thus won't work with Rockbox.

mi6:
Yep, its black.  Is there a chance the developers are working on a 6G version?  I know my 30 gig wasnt supported at first, but then they came out with a supported version.  Thanks for your help.
