c200: Cannot create new folder

(1/2) > >>

I was able to recover from my previous problem by doing a format from within the Sansa software.  I then loaded rockbox manually along with fonts and then ran the boot loader.  But I cannot seem to create a new folder.  When I try to create a subfolder in the MUSIC directory, it seems to work.  But when I reboot, I get a flashing Rockbox boot screen.  If I boot into the sansa software and then mount and take a look, the new subfolder in the MUSIC directory shows no owner and no permissions.  I can recover by formating and reloading but any attempt to create a new folder does the same thing.

Any suggestions?

FAT32 doesn't have ownership or permissions.

I'm confused, are you having problems installing Rockbox or just creating a folder? This is the installation forum, and your post is a little unclear.

Also, "sansapatcher" is not "the boot loader." The bootloader refers to what is installed by it, the code that exists on your player to pick which firmware is booted. Please, try to be very specific in future posts as this sort of thing can add confusion that makes it even harder to understand what's being asked.

This is a new installation.  I overcame the problem described in the above link by formating from within the Sansa software.  Then, doing a manual install by unziping the Rockbox software and fonts, followed by running sanspatcher got me to the point where I could start the player and Rockbox would come up.  But of course, without installing any music files, this is not very useful.  Technically I guess I am now beyond an install.

I am using Ubunut 8.04.  When the c200 is mounted and I cd into the drive, I can run an ls -a and I get owner and permission info.  For example:

But if I create a subfolder in the MUSIC directory, I run into problems.  Specifically, when I reboot, I get a blinking Rockbox screen.  If I reboot again and select the Sansa software so I can mount the c200, I go into the MUSIC dir and I see the newly created folder with no owner or permissions.

Am I clear?  Can you offer any suggestions?

Thanks!

FAT32 formatted drives get mounted with the owner being that account which mounted it.
This is why you see ownership information.

I'm suspecting filesystem issues.  Your previous post also described some weird behavior which I can't explain.

Back up your data and format with the OF, just in case. ;)
