Which battery for Gigabeat F40?
« on: January 25, 2009, 04:40:46 PM »
I bought my Gigabeat F40 on eBay in mid-December. So far I like it, but...

I'm not sure my player is holding charge well. Every day I used it I saw that there was a LOT less charge than the day before.

What iPod battery is recommended for replacement of the stock battery? If someone could link me to an eBay auction or a store online that'd be appreciated. I looked up the battery mentioned in the guide on eBay, but it looks like it was a scam since the battery they listed isn't a 1200mAh battery like the one in the guide.

Thanks

You can speed up database access in Rockbox by loading it to RAM.

Check out the SimpleGuideToCompiling and WorkingWithPatches pages on the wiki for instructions on how to build your own Rockbox.

Be advised that the screen rotation patch was rejected and is very badly out of date now.  Its mention should probably be removed from the wiki page where you saw it.

Updating the database via menu options works fine for me.

For replacing your battery with a larger capacity one: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/GigabeatBatteryUpgrade

Note: Only the last item was really a hardware question.  In the future try to ask one question (or at least related questions) per topic and post in the right forum.

Thanks

I had initially posted in the Gigabeat forum, but I thought because that was an installation forum that it didn't belong there so I edited it for deletion and posted here instead. Sorry about that.

I set the player to save a directory cache and to load database to ram and its much quicker now.

Thanks for the advice on patches too.

This forum is the right one for the battery question.  However, it doesn't fit so well for the other questions.  In the future, just open separate topics for each issue.  This helps keep the forums organized and useful for people who search later.  :)

edit: I removed the reference to optional patches from the GigabeatFXPort page since two of the three had been rejected already.  Patches can be found via the link on the left of the page.

Alright, thanks.

I removed the other stuff since that's resolved. Now I'm just looking for a new battery. I think the CS-IPOD4HL battery I found on eBay is legit, and its $14.

It's a 1200mAh battery. Should I look for a bigger one? Can I get a better battery for the money?

UPDATE: I bought a 1200mAh battery from a seller in the USA for $1+$6 shipping. We'll see if it works out. It's a SKYBA1015.

Maybe a bit late since you've already purchased, but there's a topic in the forums about people's experiences swapping batteries in their Gigabeats.  Searching for Gigabeat and battery should find it.
