Sansa c200 User Manual bug for record function?

Hopefully, I've posted in the right place..

First off, new to Rockbox, very impressed so far.  I do stand-up comedy as a hobby and use my trusty Sansa to record audio notes.  The ability to record directly to MP3 allows me to save space and the gain adjustment will let me just drop it in my shirt pocket to record sets for review later.

However, I was having trouble getting the record function to work consistently.  At first I was scouring the recording forum but then I hit upon the problem, the manual has a minor error in the instructions.

On page 41, DON'T press play to start recording, that will just scroll through the settings.  Instead, press the square "select" button.  Pause won't work either, same problem, have to use the menu/power button as per the manual, just hold it until you see the zig-zag arrow in the upper right hand corner.

Anyway, just thought I might not be the only one having this problem.

Thanks.  A patch for the manual to correct this would be much appreciated - preferably directly to the latex source, but in plain text if not.

I must admit, your post had me confused until I remembered what Latex is....great for writing documents, but I haven't used that in a while.  So, I'll just post suggested changes here:

Page 40, Section 5.8.1:

Delete:  "Note: When you start a recording, the hard disk will spin up. This will cause the peak
meters to freeze in the process. This is expected behaviour, and nothing to worry about.
The recording continues during the spin up."

Replace with:  "Note: The record screen can be accessed immediately at any time by pressing the
record button (see section 3.1.1)"


Page 41, Section 5.8.1, Key/Action Table:

Suggest table is updated as follows:

Checking on my c240, this is press long record, not record.

Also, I have noticed that when you stop recording and it tries to save, if your disk is full it gives the required error splash, but says press up to continue, when you need to press left.  I'll prepare a patch.

Also, it is missing that you can press rec to start a new file.

Just found there's a space for posting suggested manual updates while perusing the forum.  If I find anything else, I'll just run it through there.

Yep, that's how things work around here: people see something that needs fixing, they give us a fix, we add that fix in.

If you ever see anything else that needs fixing, feel free to submit a patch to Flyspray (see the link on the left), and point us to the ticket number (it'll be something like FS#XXXX) so a dev or staff with commit access can take a look at it.
