3.1 Battery Life
(1/1)
vocrobot:
One of the comments about the 3.1 release is that you can get a few more hours thanks to the new mp3 decoder. All of my music is in AAC format, 128kbps.
I've not had a chance to do a battery test since I installed Rockbox. Does anyone know whether you get much less battery life using AAC over MP3. Just wondered if anyone had any battery bench stats that gave a good comparison. I don't need really high quality rips and if the results are improved I would convert to MP3 just by using iTunes.
I would prefer to have all my music on the player just by navigating via the file-tree method and if the battery results are good I wouldn't hesistate dispensing with iTunes altogether.
Cheers

Depends on the target. Rule of thumb though, for PP5022/5024 targets (which you may or may not have), you'll use about 5-6mA of additional current with AAC vs. MP3. So given the battery size of your player (in mA *hours) you can estimate the battery life difference between MP3 and AAC.

Did you check the battery bench wiki page? If theres any tests, they'll be uploaded there.
