ipod video bug
« on: January 20, 2009, 08:08:36 PM »
In the last few releases for the ipod video 60/80GB, I noticed a possible bug. If you plug the player into a charger only connection, the rockbox software will display the usb port connection and then restart into apple firmware, as if it were connected to a computer. Once the apple firmware boots up, it then will restart, since it is on a charger only and no actual data connection is present. Once rockbox is restarted, the same thing happens again. It basically gets stuck in a loop; constantly restarting.

It has never done this in earlier (a couple of months ago) releases.

What are you doing when you plug in the cable?

He shouldn't have to press "Menu" while inserting a charge cable.  This is a bug, eh?

I'm not sure this is defined. If you want to charge and still use your player you hold a button before you insert the charger.

If you don't hold the button I am not sure what will happen is stated anywhere.

On the sansa the player it went to the usb symbol and appeared to stick there. I note there was a further change to the usb detection R19800 haven't tested this yet, will try today and see what happens.

Edit

Just updated the player and now it boots straight to rockbox charges and plays so no need now for the button press.

Even if it isn't stated anywhere, it's still a regression because it used to function correctly.

Today's update seems to fix it though. It isn't restarting and looping anymore.

I just discovered that this bug is still present with r19869, only it is now reversed. When connected to a computer, it will only charge, instead of rebooting into apple firmware to connect to the computer.

Edit: just now noticed the topic right below this one. Woops. Forgot to check if other people had posted about this.
