Gigabeat F20 not playing music[FIXED! Thx saratoga & chronon!]

Hello there, I'm new to RockBox and well.. I've been having some problems too. First, I almost lost my F20, but I managed to save it. My problem now is that whenever I try to put music on my F20, it doesn't work.

I read in the pdf that you only have to drag and drop your music on your mp3. So, just to try, I made a 'Music' folder, which I dragged and dropped an album of All That Remains. The file type I use is m4a. So anyway, I successfully copy-paste my songs on my MP3, and my F20 detects and notifies me that the files are indeed audio files. Now starts my problem... I try to play my music with my MP3 but it doesn't work. I go in the File section, then Music, and then I select the song 'This Calling'. The only thing it does is show me the 'Now Playing', shows 'This Calling' for like half a second then skips to the either second or fifth song, then last one and then stops. No music has been played, it's like if it knows it's an audio file, but doesn't know how to play it or something.

Anyone can help with that?

Generally skipping tracks means theres something wrong with the files.

The file works great on my computer. Though, could it be that, because I'm running on Linux, my Gigabeat doesn't want to play mp3, m4a, wav, and whatever other audio files Linux doesn't support?

I've tried with an .ogg and it works... So I'm guessing it's because of Linux not supporting .m4a, and so my F20 refuses to read them.

Erf... New problem: my sound output seems to be pretty kaput. I think the problem is that the two copper bands inside it are flat, making close to no contact with the headphones. Is there a way to fix that? Perhaps changing the output altogether?

Rockbox (and many forums of Linux) can decode AAC files fine.  Theres probably something wrong with those specific files.  Try using iTunes, Nero, or some other tool known to create rockbox compatible AAC files.

I should try that out... Or just stick with .ogg's.

I don't know what you mean by changing output.  If you aren't getting good contact then you need to either replace the jack inside of the Gigabeat or see if a different plug (i.e. different headphones) will improve things.

By output I meant the jack... Sorry for the confusion, english isn't my first language so I still have some issues with it sometimes. ^_^;;
