Gigabeat F40 power button not working
(1/1)
hsyed26:
Hi all,
I have a Gigabeat F40 which had a bad accident with some superglue. I'd placed my player in the same drawer and I didn't know the superglue was leaking. It leaked on to the player. Unfortunately the power button was covered in clue. I can depress the button, but it doesn't turn the player on.
I opened it up and saw that the contact seemed fine, right down to the contact. Tried cleaning as much glue as I can. I tried pressing the contact directly to see whether the player boots or not and as a result, it won't boot. No loading screen, etc, it's totally blank.
The player is charging correctly, etc when using the wall charger. Technically pressing the contact directly should boot the player. It won't which makes me believe that it's completely covered in glue, as a result, I think the contact may be shorted.
Is there a fool proof method to check or can I at least boot into the settings via a PC and change the mapping so it turns on using another button?
Thanks.

No ideas, but i have a spare button board for an F40 that you can have if you send me a few bucks to cover postage.

Thanks, I had the player checked by a few "local" hardware guys here. They say that the entire LCD is broken. I find it odd considering that when I plug it in using the external charger, I see the charge sign on the screen. If it was broken, it wouldn't be working at all.
I'll get in touch if I can't figure something out.
Any other ideas people?
Thanks,

if you get the little plug indicator i'd say the LCD works.
Might be something else wrong with it though. You did make sure that the button board is plugged in, right?
