Sansa e2xx: built in video vs. rockbox video

(1/2) > >>

Hi Everyone,

I am thinking about trying out the Rockbox software but I have a couple questions first.

I believe my Sansa e2xx player currently plays .mov files at 15 FPS

What would be the benefit of moving to Rockbox if I would like to play videos?

1)  I think the FPS would be better with rockbox (27 fps vs. 15 fps).  Is this correct?
2)  Would the converted video's be larger or smaller as mpeg2?
3)  Is anyone working on a DivX or Xvid decoder for Rockbox (for the sansa e2xx players)?
4)  Any additional information that I should know before making the switch to Rockbox to play video?

Thank you,
Jpummill

LambdaCalculus:
1) The framerate on the e200 should be better with Rockbox. I don't have an e200, but it depends on the settings used to transcode the file. See the PluginMpegplayer page for more info.

2) MPEG-2 is a more efficient encoder than MJPEG (what the Sansa OF uses), so videos should be smaller. Your mileage may vary.

3) Not at the moment, and DivX/XviD playback would not be limited to only one player if someone were.

4) All the information you need is on the PluginMpegplayer page I linked to above. Check it out.

Thank you.

as an owner of an e200, i can quite easily say that as far as video goes, rockbox is far superior. the framerates are much higher, and the compression is a hundred times better (well not that much, but you get the idea). Theres a list of video encoders somewhere in the wiki, it should be easy enough to find.
