e260 v1 will not start rockbox while plugged in

I have Rockbox 3.1 and the manual says that I can use it while plugged into the computer by holding Select as I plug it in.
I tried this, but Windows XP Home asked for drivers or something because it found new hardware called "Rockbox media player."
If I hold do the procedure when the e260 is off, it takes me to the OF, but if I do it while the e260 is on, Windows will give me the dialogue.
Either way, I can't use Rockbox while plugged in.
Help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Why does the dialogue matter? Does it somehow prevent you from using Rockbox?

It will not allow me to use Rockbox either way.

Try it with a current build instead.  Charging was enabled more recently than 3.1. . ..  See: http://svn.rockbox.org/viewvc.cgi?view=rev;revision=19748

It worked fine when I tried it with r19770 with my e280
