SDxc Cards
« on: January 11, 2009, 10:03:26 AM »
I know little is know about these new cards at this point in time, but can you imagine that one day Rockbox would eventually be able to support them, as Rockbox already supports MicroSD and MicroSDHC?

CHECK IT OUT:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2338283,00.asp

Imagine having a 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1024GB (1 Terabyte) SD card in your Rockboxed media player!!!  ;D ;D

NOTE: SDxc (eXtended Capacity) requires that the chipset of your media player be able to support it, beyond the regular firmware upgrade/update. Let's watch and see as things develop  ;)

Please don't post "wouldn't it be neat if..." style posts.

Until such cards exist in the wild and there's some hardware to actually learn about, there's nothing that can really be known.

Well being the Rockbox General Discussion Board, I was just bringing to the attention of my fellow Rockboxers the advent of this new technology.

I didn't know it would have been an offense

thanks for the heads-up. I got a Sansa Fuze as a present and I'm looking at expanding the memory via SD (roll on Rockbox for the sansa v2!!)

My sansa fuze already supports FLAC and OGG which is impressive but I'm lookin at full support.....

Zardoz: Now you're tempting me to get a Sansa Fuze!!  ;D

Llorean: again I reiterate: this is just to let the word out. Also, Rockbox users know that for their media player, in addition to having a great firmware replacement as Rockbox, we are interested in having more storage capacity on our devices.

You really, REALLY do not need to post to these forums about every technology you find interesting. Seriously.

When the cards exist and you've researched them, feel free to come back with actual technical information.

I mean, if it really requires hardware support there is absolutely nothing to be done about it. So this is the same, essentially, as saying "Phillips just released a new MP3 player with (some feature I want), isn't that neat?" These forums aren't for general technical discussion.

So basically you started a thread to tell people that at some point undefined in the future larger memory cards would exist.  I think most people here probably realized that memory cards get larger over time, so I don't think you need to "let the word out".
