After disconnect, Apple firmware boots
« on: January 07, 2009, 10:51:25 PM »
Hi everyone.
I've installed rockbox using the utility. It's up to the most stable build, being 3.1.
Whenever I have my iPod (5.5g, 80gb) plugged in either to a computer, or to a wall socket on charge, the screen displays the generic apple cross. When I unplug it, it boots into the apple firmware, and to get it to boot into rockbox, I need to reset it by holding Select + Menu.
Should I be able to have it so that it never boots into the apple firmware at all? I never use it, and I don't even have iTunes, so it's a bit irritating that it boots into it after a disconnect.

First off, this isn't an Installation/Removal question. I've moved it out of the install forums. I'm not quite sure what made you think it was a question about installing Rockbox, but if I can improve the POSTING IN THIS FORUM post in that area to make it more clear what shouldn't be posted there, please let me know.

As to your question, my guess is that you've got the hold switch on while it's charging. Just make sure hold is off before you unplug, as hold causes it to reboot into the Apple firmware.

Sorry mate, I'm not going to lie, I didn't even see that sticky until after I'd posted, so I had a feeling somebody would move it. Won't make the mistake again.

Yeah, I would've thought it had to do with the hold switch as well, but thinking about it, it would go to the big red cross logo, opposed to the small black one when it was plugged in, which is part of the apple firmware, so by that point it was already there. I tried a complete reinstall of rockbox, and it's all working fine as far as I can see now. Weird, but thanks for your help.
