H120 sound problem
« on: January 05, 2009, 02:32:37 PM »
We have a iRiver H120 20 GB player. When we play the music, we do not get any audio at all. We can see the progression of the song being played. We have tried to connect to different headphones, speakers etc. We also reinstalled the Rockbox software. There are no problems with file upload, downloads, etc. Just no sound output at all. We called iRiver support and they asked us to reinstall the software - which is what we had done already with the Rockbox software. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds to me like your iriver's problems may be hardware-based, not software-based. If not one set of headphones or pair of speakers works, then there may be a problem with the headphone or optical jacks.

You may have to call iriver support again and have it sent in for hardware repairs, unless you know someone that could help you fix it up.

Thanks for your quick response. Any idea of how we can fix the headphone jack - we can start with that first.

I don't know how to fix the jack, as I don't own an H120. But check out the Misticriver forums, as they're iriver-oriented and probably have some answers to your questions:

I take it that you also get no sound with the iriver firmware?  That would seem the most obvious way of checking the hardware.

It did not work with original firmware and after reading some forum postings we tried rockbox software. The installation of the software was fine but the problem still continues i.e. no audio output

And neither the haedphone nor line out port (nor optical output - make sure to turn it on in the menus) work?
