APPLE firmware missing

(1/1)

Harikrishnan:
Hi

I installed Rockbox using the utility 2 days back.  Rockbox really rocks.  But then when I followed the instructions to boot apple firmware (1. Switch on the device and immediately keep the hold on, 2. Connect the device to the computer), my ipod just keeps restarting.  The apple logo appears and then I hear a 'click' sound and it again and again restarts the ipod.  When I release the hold button, it agains starts booting into Rockbox.

I uninstalled Rockbox using the utility and now also my original Apple firmware is not loading.

I went through some posts with similar issues earlier and the only suggestion I could see was to 'restore' the device using Itunes.   :(.  Is there not any other way of having the Apple firmware and May I know the reason why this has happened actually.

Kindly reply

What operating system are you using on your computer?  Had you performed any modifications to your ipod before installing Rockbox?  Which model of ipod did you install onto?

When you installed Rockbox did you safely eject your ipod, or did you just pull the cable?  It sounds like the firmware partition in your ipod somehow got corrupted during the install process.

If you're using OS X or Windows, then the easiest way is to use itunes to restore your ipod.  For Linux, some manual instructions are available here:

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodManualRestore

(if you know what you're doing, you could adapt those instructions to OS X or Windows, but using itunes is easier there.)

Thanks for the reply.  I am using Win Xp.  My IPOD is 30GB 5TH GEN VIDEO IPOD.  I will try restoring it using Itunes.  I didnt perform any modification before installing rockbox.  I safely ejected ipod after installing rockbox.  I will try restoring the ipod using itunes.  :(
