delete dynamic playlist = fatal ? help please
« on: January 03, 2009, 07:01:04 AM »
howdy peoples :)

had a bunch-o-fun the last week + a bit having finally rockboxed my iriver H320 ---so thanks a monumental amount to all and sundry involved with its development , nice work :)

however just may have hit a little snag ...few years ago had bought lcd remote for my playa , and with it being rockboxed now and new headphones that fit the crazy connector scheme (in and out on same side with bare minimal entrance width for plug ...but thats another issue) so i fire up the lcd and rockbox appears on it .....nice .....start playing and tooling and trying to insert a track next in line .....i think the question that pops up is insert next in dynamic playlist  - yes = navi / no = any other key ....i hit navi ...and the players screen goes away and player shuts down - LCD remote is still on and now the question shows as "delete dynamic playlist" .......now the player will not power on in any way shape or form - will not charge and will not connect to puta ......i know its highly unlikely but is there any chance deleting the dynamic playlist could brick it at all ? or is it just my coincidental shitty luck that battery dies as im trying something out ???? im inclined to believe the latter but never quite sure as im fairly mentally unstable so who knows

any help monstrously appreciated as i gots no money for a new one and dont want to start playing with the battery replace again if i dont have to

thanks much and take care

Deleting the dynamic playlist shouldn't brick anything, 'cause all it's doing is deleting the playlist and replacing it with a new list, either from the files in the folder you selected a file in, or the list of files shown in the database under whatever category you selected, or from a saved playlist you selected. The change for warning when deleting the dynamic playlist was made for version 3.1, before it never used to warn by default (the option was still there, under Settings -> General Settings -> Playlists.)

I'd recommend making sure your H320 is fully charged, then giving it a go again. If it continues happening, you may want to file a bug on the Flyspray tracker, and/or disable the warning and see if it still dies when automatically replacing the list.

well thats what i thought ....charge was around 65% left to go when it happened but after posting was still curious and sounded like it was still "on" , as in battery being used not hdd .....this morning , as ive learnt is the way with electronically inclined equipment i tried it again for no good reason ....and away we go its working again ...was at 1% battery and is now charging ...but could this actually be an about to die hard drive ? as battery seems fine but hdd seems to be making more noise than it used to but this was when holding to my ear .....guess ill go looking for samsung or toshiba drive tomorrow anyway just incase .....

the thing with the playlist that concerned me was that i was selecting a song from the same folder so while it logically should have replaced the current dynamic with the exact same one with a different lead track ....i guess to much sci-fi made me think this might be a logical paradox that rockbox couldnt rationalize ?

this still shouldnt be an issue and probably a hard drive on the way out ?

thanks for any help ideas thoughts :) ...or ideas where to get replacement hard drive in brisbane australia ?

It could be that your hard drive is failing.  Rockbox shouldn't fail just because you choose to start playback from a different point in the same directory that generated the current dynamic playlist.  I do this all the time, in fact.

thanks chronon , guess was jsut seeking affirmation and a little solace from someone , guessing its about to go ...best get some dollaroos together to get a new hdd ...also found a cheap 2nd hand that may suffice ....5mm hdd being so scarce in aus it seems ...so thanks much , just wish it would wait until boot up or just listening for something to go bad so i dont think its me ...just once :)

also noticed your post on my dopewars idea chronon , ...hopefully someone runs with it ...i might give it a bash but never had anything to do with "the depths" as i like to call coding /programming /building etc , just doesnt clik for me ....oh well on with the .....thing with the thing

maybe I'm already a bit late, but could your problem be related to FS#9842? I guess, you are not using Rockbox in English, do you?
