Archos Jukebox Recorder: USB-powered / Always in USB-mode
(1/1)
rabanito:
Because i often use my Archos as a external harddrive, i wanted to make it USB-powered for not having to bring along the power-supply all the time. So what i did is i wired the battery-poles to the respective USB-power-poles inside the device. This works very well for connecting it to a computer without seperate power-supply, but when i use it with batteries just to listen to music, it always powers up in the USB-Mode!
Is there a way of differently soldering the poles or maybe a software-patch to avoid this problem?
Or is it just not possible to make the device USB-powered AND listen to music?
Very nice would also be to power it via USB and connect it to a stereo for listening to music without even having to use the batteries...
Many thanks!

AFAIK rockbox just checks if there is +5V on the USB port, in order to switch to USB-mode. You can patch the code to your need; i.e. button (a) for USB-mode and button (b) for music-mode.
But you are risking a serious defect of your archos by this hw-hack ??? ???

Thank you very much for your reply!
Sorry for the long delay, i'f been on a holiday...
Your solution sounds just like exactly what i was looking for!!!
My Archos Jukebox Recorder works fine until now with this hw-hack and i used it a lot...
Unfortunately i'm not very keen on compiling patches or modifying any code :-[
Could you explain (if it's not too difficult) how to patch the code myself or maybe (i know that's asking a lot) attach a patch i can simply execute for it to work? ;)
Thank you very much!
