Charging while in rockbox (ipod3g)
(1/1)
edwardecl:
I don't know if this has been discussed before or anything, but is it possible to turn off the feature where the ipod boots itself into disk mode when the firewire cable is plugged in? For stuff like updating the database its not very practical when you have low battery and you cant charge the ipod while doing it because it just reboots into diskmode.
Or is there a problem charging the ipod in the rockbox firmware? I could not find any config to let the ipod stay in rockbox when the cable is inserted can anyone help me with this?
MarcGuay:
So you would like to connect the ipod and have it charge but not establish a USB connection? If so, the quick start section of the manual tells you how to do this.
edwardecl:
Well actually this is not mentioned in the ipod3g manual in the quick start so I'm guessing it can't do it :(, and pressing menu while plugging the ipod in does not work for me on the ipod3g (I read this in the ipod color manual). Even if I boot the ipod up into rockbox while plugged in it instantly reboots to diskmode.
Will I have to use the same trick I used with the the apple firmware where I disabled a specific firewire port so it didn't connect? (I did this so I could play and charge at the same time). My device is firewire only it does not charge from USB although it can connect from USB.
Pressing menu while plugged in while booting up seems to load the apple firmware then it crashes instantly, dunno if this is a bug with apples firmware.
So I'm stuck any suggestions? I'm pretty sure older versions of rockbox didn't reboot on connect but it has been bugging me for a while now :).
MarcGuay:
Sorry for misleading you. It does appear that the 3rd gen cannot charge-only, but I'm only assuming this based on the fact that it doesn't exist in the manual, and it's possible that the manual errs. Perhaps someone else can confirm.
