Install Instructions for Sanas e260
(1/1)
chexin51:
Quick Install Rockbox on Sansa e260
2008-12-28 XP Home Sansa firmware 01.02.24A
Prerequisites:
1. The USB mode on your player must be set to MSC for this to work.
2. Make sure you are logged into your computer as Administrator, or a user with Administrator privileges
3. connect your player with the USB cable.
There are really 2 Parts to install
Part 1. Download then Run the Rockbox Utility - rbutilqt-v1.0.8
Part 2. Download then Run the Bootloader - sansapatcher.exe http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/sandisk-sansa/sansapatcher/win32/sansapatcher.exe
Part 1 The Rockbox Utility
1. After downloading the appropriate file for your player unzip it
2. run it from the unzipped file folder
3. if the automatic quick install fails ( cannot find Sansa 260e even though you can see it with the Browser ) manually install it from the Installation tab instead of the Quick Start tab
Part 2 The Bootloader
In order to make your e200 load and execute the Rockbox firmware you have just installed, you will need to install
the Rockbox bootloader. Unless bugs are found in the bootloader code, or significant new feature are added, you
will only have to perform this step once.
These steps use the sansapatcher tool.
Bootloader installation:
1. Download sansapatcher.exe from
http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/sandisk-sansa/sansapatcher/win32/sansapatcher.exe
2. run it.
3. If all has gone well, you should see some information displayed about your e200 and a message asking you if you wish to install the Rockbox bootloader. Press i followed by ENTER
4. sansapatcher will now install the bootloader. After a short time you should see the message “[INFO] Bootloader installed successfully.†Press ENTER again to exit sansapatcher.
5. Disconnect your player in the safe way. The bootloader is now installed and the Sansa will reboot to the new Rockbox interface

What's the point of this post?
Installation instructions are in the manual, and you seem to ignored the fact that sansapatcher should be completely unnecessary under the majority of circumstances.
chexin51:
I respectfully submit that in my case although the .rockbox file was installed on my Sansa that it continued to boot the original Sansa system.
I was able to eventually find the info by searching through all the FAQs and rereading the installation instructions. I just thought it could be usefull in this condensed text .
Llorean:
RBUtil installs the bootloader if you choose the right option. You probably selected one of the install options that doesn't install the bootloader, since you only need that on first installs.
