This is only passingly related to Rockbox, but I wasn't sure where to post it.
Basically, I was screwing around in ubuntu, I was using gparted and when I selected the e260 I noticed there was a little extra partition at the end of the drive.
In a fit of absolute brilliance I thought to myself "Hey! That must be wasted space, I could expand the main partition to fill up the whole drive and squeeze a little extra storage out of my mp3 player, durrhhh!" and I did, thus deleting what I now realize to be the partition that holds the player's main firmware and its recovery console.
See, not too bright. So I bricked the thing pretty bad. Am I totally screwed or is there something I can do to reconstruct the partitions on my device.
