Problem when trying to install rockbox utility (No disc access permission?)
« on: December 26, 2008, 06:51:49 PM »
Hi, I am running Vista on my laptop, which is practically brand new.  I am trying to install Rockbox on my Sansa C250 with V1 firmware.  When I try to do the full install, I get a message saying "dont have disc permission for access, you need permission to install bootloader". So now I'm stuck here, I have no clue what to do to get it to work.  Any ideas how to just get it installed?

Nevermind, got sick of having all the issues with the auto installer and I just did the manual one.  10000x easer in my opinion.  Hooray though! Now I have a 10 gig flash MP3 player for a total of 35 dollars!

Do you have admin rights on this brand new PC? I believe that you need to in order to run rbutil properly.
Try right-clicking and choosing Run as Administrator and let us know how you get on.

Tried right clicking as "Run as Administrator", and it's still doing the same thing.   The freezing seemed to be non rockbox related, and I think I got it to stop doing that.  It seems to be auto-detected now without it freezing, but it still says "cannot autodetect".  Other times, I click "autodetect", and get no confirmation after it loads for a little bit, but no error message either, so I'm assuming it's going through.  But I think it is still detecting it, because if I manually select the drive where it is myself and try to run the auto-installer, it says "disc access permission denied", but if I unplug it, it says "mountpoint set wrong".

Bad news is it says I still don't have disc access permission denied, and I can't install the boot loader without that , apparantly.  I googled how to unlock Administrator on Vista, and did that, and logged in as Administrator, and it still is saying the same thing, "no disc access permission, can't install boot loader"

Thanks a TON in advance to anyone that can help me get this working and get me some "disc access permission"!

That's probably FS#9711.

yep, same thing happened to me. All you need to do is download the missing dll file from the below link, and throw it on your C drive somewhere (I just put the dll file on the desktop and rockbox instantly starting working)

Honestly though, I wasted about 3 days trying to get the auto-installer to work. Then I tried to manual install it and it took about 5 minutes and was extremely easy.  I'd reccomend doing that if you can't get it to work or get other errors like I did.
