I ran into a  problem after replacing the microdrive in a mini I bought from eBay with CF memory.  After restoring the unit using itunes it required me to hook it up to a wall charger to complete the restore which I did. But when the ipod restarted it went to the language screen and it showed that the unit was locked.  No matter what I try I cannot get it to unlock.  The toggle seems to work freely.  What is really mind boggling is I tested the unit with a small capacity CF card before I bought the new one and I did not have this problem.  Any suggestions?

Sounds like the physical hold is switched on and the switch on the cover isn't matching the real hardware switch below -- did you check that?
