Sansa e260 Unbricking with Windows Vista, Compatibility Issues?

(1/1)

hungyzerglin:
Hey all,

Earlier today my sansa froze while playing a music track, after I shut it off the blue ring of death appeared and neither the rockbox or original bootloader could be accessed. After looking at the e200 unbricking guide, it seems like my device is stuck in recovery mode after freezing from a corrupt song playback. The thing is, after trying Hold+Record+Power on and plugging it into my computer, Vista gave me an error in installing the device driver for what I assume is the 16 mb usb flash drive partition. Does anyone know if there are extra steps involved in Vista unbricking (I'm running Vista Basic), or if there's a way to force manufacturing mode? Thanks.

If you're wondering what's the unknown device, go into Device Manager, right click on the device, select properties, go to the details pane and select "Hardware Ids".

If you need LibUSB-Win32, try 0.1.10.1.  I haven't used it for e200 unbricking, but it works for other uses and seems stable.  The latest version did not work.

I would just try plugging it in again-

1- Player OFF, hold switch ON.
2- Hold the record button, DON'T press the power button.
3- plug the player in and wait.

It should come up ok, if not try again, maybe a different USB port.
--DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES format the partition called, "16MB Format".
