I kept having the same "data abort at 00010154 (0)" crash when using the patched build for ipod video JdGordon made available, so I decided to learn to try and make the patched build myself (just in case), which came out alright (VERY well explained in the wiki by the way), but it behaves the same: every time I use the %xn tag, I get the data abort crash.

I also built the sim, and the strange things is that it works perfectly! So I don't know what the problem on target might be, I'm using exactly the same sources and the same wps files on both the sim and the ipod video; the syntax is now 100% correct.
To check, I also made a build using the first patch (bmp_numbers.diff), and I had the same data abort problem, although the sim worked fine.

Well as I said before, I do believe this patch adds a really great feature, perfect for the arboxWidgets theme as an example; it really enhances the clock and the calendar widgets, and I personally could use it in many other cases. Below are screenshots of the "current" arboxWidgets theme, and two modification examples using this patch (screenshots taken from sim)

It's January... but maybe Santa could help to find out what the problem is so that we can use this present?   ;)

that looks very nice indeed. could you post your sim and wps?
-Thank you akahhannah. i'm a bit confused how to use new stuff, if i don't see how it's actually used.

wps: http://

sim: http://

the sim zip is rather big, I guess not all files are needed, but I wouldn't know what to leave out

If you use this tag succesfully (on an ipod video or other target) please let me know..

you can delete everything except for the simdiskfolder, the exe file and the sdl.dll.
I have built a sim and a build for gigabeat f. the sim works fine, the build does not crash on target (f20), but does not display the numbers either...

i guess I should say this has been abandoned for the time being... more interesting patches in the works (well, for me anyway...)
Hopefully this prompts someone to work on a full multifont patch

I successfully got the old multifont patch working some time ago, though I've since discarded it since any attempts to make it reuse existing code ended up breaking things...

I could grab that patch off the tracker and sync it to SVN while making the adjustments necessary to make it work, but after that it would take someone with real coding experience to make it work more efficiently and reuse the existing code more rather than adding a lot of new code to manage each separate font...

I was just commenting on JdGordon's comment about someone making a proper multifont patch...

I admit this has its advantages, mostly in the eye-candy department where it lends itself to some nicer looking themes, but multifont would ultimately be better since it would allow for multiple fonts to be used (which would _really_ come in handy with targets with LCD remotes, most notably the H300 with it's decently sized main screen and rather tiny remote screen...)

I doubt this feature, if (and probably when) it's committed, would be removed once full and proper multi-font support is added, since the fonts can't compete with precisely tailored bitmaps when it comes to eye-candy...

The real question is whether this feature will get committed at all. I agree that it's nicer eye candy that multifont, but it's up to some debate as to whether it really adds enough that it's worth including alongside multifont, or whether we should just go with multifont on its own.

Remember, eye-candy is only a secondary focus at best, and we certainly don't have a trend to include every possible eye-candy idea.
