Better FM station Navigation
pcgolfer:
It would be nice to move from preset to preset in the same manner as the regular firmware - simply by hitting the select key - with a radio interface. I am sure there are themes out there that give a better radio interface.
Llorean:
"in the same manner as teh regular firmware" is pretty unhelpful since there are so many players Rockbox runs on.
I'm pretty sure you can skip from one preset to the next in Rockbox anyway, wouldn't being able to go back and forth through them instead of just one-way be better anyway?
AlexP:
So I press the correct button as described in the manual to swap between preset and scan mode, then when in preset mode I press left to go down a preset and right to go up? This seems better to me than only being able to go one way and then have to cycle through all the presets if I press the skip button one to many times. Pressing select (check the manual for your target) even gives me a list of presets so I can select the one I want even more quickly.
I'm not saying the FM screen keymaping is perfect, but I'm not sure this is the answer.
Also, the FM screen isn't currently themeable.
pcgolfer:
I have it working fine now. I'm not overly technical and think Rockbox is great. However, the best interfaces require no owners manual at all - it's just intuitive. I believe there is an opportunity to improve on the FM interface by allowing development of themes that do just that.
There is always a tradeoff between ease of use and functionality.
Llorean:
Rockbox will never require no manual, unless a large percentage of features are dropped. This would more or less defeat the purpose of Rockbox.
At the very least, people should read the owner's manual to see if a feature exists before requesting it. ;)
