okay, would it be possible to install an Sd card reader to the Sansa Clip v1?..of course i'm guessing the firmware would have to be modified to know to use it?

Assuming you mean via the USB port, yes you could probably write drivers for one, although at present no one knows how to use the USB port at all on the Clip.
