Ipod w/ Rockbox attempting to use it with a dvd car system
« on: December 16, 2008, 06:00:19 PM »
My dad is currently trying to use his 80gb ipod with the new install of rockbox. this is the first time we've used this program. I am using with my e260. The issue he's currently having is that his system in the car is an eclipse gps system that has a ipod connector, that allows him to use the system to change tracks and such on the ipod. Well, with rockbox currently installed, he cannot have control over the ipod while it is connected, unless from the actual unit itself. I was wondering if you guys have a plugin or a way to get this to work in conjunction with stereo systems in the car?

btw I love program just hoping I can help my dad with his issue. Thank You in advance for your help.

I believe that you're basically out of luck for now.  From http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodAccessories in the wiki:
Quote
[...]Many accessories for the iPod which connect via the dock adapter do not work with Rockbox. This is because they use Apple's proprietary Apple Accessory Protocol, which is only partially documented, and not implemented at all in Rockbox.[...]

There is more information in the forums somewhere I believe if you care to search it out, but I don't think that there is an easy fix.  Someone needs to do the work of implementing the protocol for those accessories to work.

You can try this build which has limited support for ipod accessories:

Well, it's a test build.  It exists to test and debug the corresponding patch.  Most unsupported builds have a number of patches applied to them and are therefore almost useless for testing purposes.  Still, bugs associated with it should be reported to the topic that saratoga linked.
