ipod video 5g docking problem

(1/2) > >>

mixyblob:
Can I prevent  my ipod video 5g 60gig turning on when I turn my PC off ?
It happens when docked, with or without  menu pressed.

soap:
This doesn't sound like a Rockbox issue as:

* If your iPod is booted into Rockbox and charging while plugged into your PC it will already be on when the PC is turned off.
* If your iPod appears to be "off" while plugged into a PC it is in Apple's sleeping firmware.
* If your iPod is in Apple's disk mode while plugged into your PC it is already on when the PC is turned off, and simply switches back to Rockbox, which will then idle time out.  Since it was in Apple's disk mode at the time this happens (the PC power-off) there is no way for Rockbox to be made aware that this is a unique situation which might warrant an immediate power-off.
Perhaps there is a 4th possibility, but I can not for the life of me think of one at this time.

Zardoz:
just set the idle time off to 1 minute and start screen/resume playback to 'file.' 1 minute will be endured before that satisfying downspin and click of 'death/sleep.'

I just mean its a workable alternative. And perhaps also a useful fillip to meditation

mixyblob:
I installed Rockbox on my ipod the day I bought it and have not yet tried the Apple firmware.
The scenario,
I turn my ipod off, press menu and insert it into the dock to charge.
The ipod starts to boot into Rockbox and then changes to the charging (grey scale no entry-do not disconnect) screen.
When I turn my PC off, the ipod boots into Rockbox.
All I want is the ipod to turn off too.

GodEater:
An ipod cannot be charged whilst "off".

Attaching it to any sort of usb connection (power only or data) will instantly cause it to power on again. There's nothing rockbox can do about that, it's a feature of the hardware.
