Issue with new Cameron Sino 2300mAH battery
(1/1)
Bhairav:
Hey.
This is with my iRiver h115.
I got the new Cameron Sino from eBay (LicketySplit), and installed it Sunday. There was some charge left in it, so I plugged in my remote (without the HDD), and let it discharge completely.
That process took ~3 hours.
Then plugged in the charger. It charges for 1-2 hours, and stops charging. When I put the player on, the voltage is at a ridiculously low level, 0.00 or 0.01V, and then I get the "LOW BATTERY! SHUTTING DOWN !!" message.
I tried booting into the original firmware, no dice. As soon as I remove the power adapter, poof... that goes off as well.
So, is this a faulty battery? Or have I let the voltage drop so low, that it can't recharge at all? Currently, it's in Bootloader USB mode. The HDD is fine, can copy/paste files on and off it. Charging seems to be continuing (for the moment)
Will a new version of RB make a difference? I was using an old December '07 build.
Help?
Edit:
The charging cuts off in about 40 minutes. Playback continues, but still get the 0.00V voltage and shutdown if I disconnect the USB connection.
Chronon:
It sounds like a bad battery to me. As far as I am aware there's a protection circuit in the H115 that prevents you from deep discharging the battery. So, while there's no reason to try to discharge a Li-Ion battery (they don't suffer from memory effects like NiMH) I don't think you would have damaged it by trying.
Bhairav:
Oh, ok. Cheers.
I'm sending this one back to LicketySplit.. it just refuses to charge. Could I have messed the charging circuitry in some way? I just removed and replaced the battery, no shorts or anything anywhere.. the battery just seems to have deep discharged and refuses to start up.
The old one (1300mAh) works fine, but only 7-8h of playback before it dies out.
Chronon:
If your old battery still works (but with reduced play time) then I think everything is fine.
Bhairav:
LicketySplit are sending me a new one free of charge. Nice of them.
