Rockbox On Sansa e250 v2 (V03.01.16A) ?

Hi all and huge thanks to all the developers involved...............
I am a proud new owner of a Sansa e250 v2 (V03.01.16A), and prior to buying this machine I did some research on the net, found this site and decided that the Sansa with Rockbox is the machine for me......, however I did not catch this line in the RB manual - "Note: Rockbox doesn't function on the newer v2 models. They can be identified by checking the Sandisk firmware version number under Settings ! Info. The v1 firmware
is named 01.xx.xx, while the v2 firmware begins with 03"  - DOH !.
Is there a means of installing Rockbox on my machine, or is there prospect of a newer version of Rockbox that is compatible with this player ?.

I'm somewhat confused. What would be the point of installing it if it doesn't function?

As to prospects for a future version on it, some work is being done as can be seen in the thread in the New Ports forum.

I look forward to newer RB version that will work on my player - any idea of how long this is likely to take ?.

It is impossible to estimate. Too much is based on chance, and the availability of free time, and clever ideas.

Ok, thanks Paul.       It seems that this model supercedes the V1 model, and V1 versions are no longer available.           Is the V1 firmware able to be installed on the V2 versions thus allowing installation of RB ?.

The problem isn't the firmware. They have entirely different hardware. The installed firmware version is just a relatively easy way to identify what hardware is inside without having to open it.

Sounds like a complete re writing of RB to talk to the newer hardware then .

Not a complete rewrite no - but it requires that people write all the new hardware drivers. After that the same rockbox application code that runs on every other target will work fine.

Ok.   I am sure that there would be a bunch of very appreciative V2 owners (myself included) when this is done.    Indeed I recently bought the Sansa expecting that I would be able to run RB instead of the factory firmware (see my first post).  Eric.
