Strange problem here. I had a channel missing when playing songs so I opened my player up and tried to fix it. Soldered the little blue wire near the headphone input and put a couple drops of solder on the points where that input connected to the circuit board. When I put it back together, it wouldn't play any files. I could change files, FF etc, but the file would just sit there and not play. I thought I might try the archos software and deleted the ajbrec.ajz file from the root directory. Now it freezes at the bootup screen which shows the version of the archos software, with the harddrive light on. Same story every time. Did the firmware get damaged somehow? Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.
PS. The drive seems fine as I can access it with a notebook to IDE adapter and play the songs through windows media player.
Well, looks like I stumped the experts. Might be time for the scrap heap for the old jukebox. Only thing I can think of is that I physically damaged it somehow. Reformatted the hard drive. Flashed Rockbox to it, which helped in that it doesn't freeze at the bootup screen anymore when I plug the AC or USB adapter into it. Still refuses to play the files, though. Kind of maddening, really, to load up any song I want on it but have the thing refuse to play it.
